Reef Advantage Calcium™ is a non-caustic (pH 8.3–8.6) optimized blend of ionic calcium formulated to restore and maintain calcium levels found in natural seawater, essential for healthy coral growth. Calcium and carbonates are critical for coral development; deficiencies in either can halt growth and rapidly deteriorate coral health. This product also contains magnesium and strontium in proportions aligned with typical utilization ratios (100:5:0.1, Ca:Mg:Sr), supporting balanced maintenance of these vital elements alongside calcium.

Unlike limewater (kalkwasser), Reef Advantage Calcium™ does not have a caustic pH and will not deplete magnesium or alkalinity when used as directed. It works synergistically with carbonate supplements such as Reef Builder or Reef Carbonate to ensure optimal coral health.

Usage Guidelines:

  • For beginners, dissolve 1 level teaspoon per 150 L (40 gallons*) twice weekly in at least one cup of freshwater. Test calcium levels every two weeks and adjust dosing accordingly.
  • Advanced users should monitor calcium levels and dose until reaching 380–420 mg/L. Each dose raises calcium by approximately 12 mg/L; dosing frequency and amount can be adjusted but should not exceed 25 mg/L per day.
  • Experts may implement a continuous drip system based on calculated calcium consumption rates, using the formula: t = 0.002 × v × c (where t = teaspoons to add to top-off water, v = tank volume in gallons, c = desired calcium increase in mg/L).

Each capful (5 mL) raises calcium by about 3 mg/L per 80 L (20 gallons*). Do not exceed 3 capfuls per 80 L daily to avoid overdosing, which can lead to carbonate alkalinity loss. It is best to add calcium and carbonate supplements on alternate days or at least 30 minutes apart to prevent adverse reactions.

Use the Reef Status™: Calcium test kit to accurately measure calcium levels and maintain them ideally below 380 mg/L when using this product. Note that color and clarity may vary between lots.
